Our verdict
If you need a general-purpose scheduling tool with lots of customization, packages, and intake forms, Acuity is strong. For tradespeople who want deposit enforcement, field-service workflow, and no monthly commitment, GrabMySlot is the better fit.
Acuity Scheduling (now part of Squarespace) is one of the most feature-rich appointment scheduling platforms available. It supports deposits, cancellation policies, SMS reminders, Google Calendar sync, and a polished booking experience. If you're a business coach, personal trainer, therapist, or salon owner, Acuity is an excellent tool. But if you're a plumber, HVAC tech, or electrician, Acuity is general-purpose software that wasn't designed for your workflow, your customers, or the specific economics of field service work.
Acuity is built for service businesses where the customer comes to a fixed location — or joins a video call. Its ideal users are coaches, consultants, therapists, fitness instructors, and beauty professionals. The platform's design, feature emphasis (packages, gift certificates, HIPAA compliance, intake forms), and pricing structure all reflect these industries. It's a horizontal scheduling tool that many business types can use, not a vertical solution for any one industry.
GrabMySlot is built exclusively for independent tradespeople — plumbers, HVAC techs, electricians, roofers, landscapers, and others who drive to a customer's home or business. The product exists to solve one specific problem: you're losing time and money when customers don't show up. Every feature — Google Calendar sync for real availability, deposit enforcement, cancellation windows, SMS reminders, dispute-ready audit trails — is designed around the field service model where your time has a fuel cost and an opportunity cost attached to it.
Acuity's Emerging plan costs $20/month — but SMS reminders (critical for no-show reduction) are only available on the Growing plan at $34/month. That's $408/year before you've collected a single deposit. GrabMySlot has no monthly fee. You pay 3% per deposit collected, plus Stripe's standard processing fee. On a $95 deposit, you pay $5.91 total. A tradesperson doing 20 service calls per month at $75 each pays approximately $45/month — only in active months. Zero cost during slow periods.

Does Acuity Scheduling work for plumbers and contractors?
You can use Acuity as a plumber or HVAC tech — it has the right technical features. But the product wasn't designed for field service work. Its intake forms, packages, gift certificates, and HIPAA features aren't relevant to tradespeople, and you'd pay $20–$34/month for a general-purpose tool. GrabMySlot is purpose-built for the specific workflow of a tradesperson booking service calls with deposits.
Is Acuity Scheduling's Google Calendar sync as good as GrabMySlot's?
Acuity syncs with Google Calendar, but the integration works differently. Acuity maintains its own availability system and syncs events to Google Calendar. GrabMySlot reads your Google Calendar freebusy data in real time to determine available slots — meaning your real availability (including personal appointments, other jobs, and blocks) is always reflected without any duplicate calendar management.
Does Acuity enforce cancellation policies automatically?
Acuity allows you to set a cancellation policy and display it to customers, and customers can acknowledge it during booking. However, automatic refund enforcement based on cancellation timing requires manual management on your end. GrabMySlot automatically determines whether a cancellation is inside or outside your window and processes the refund (or retains the deposit) accordingly.
Why doesn't GrabMySlot have intake forms like Acuity?
GrabMySlot has a customer notes field for job-specific information. We don't have Acuity-style intake forms because they're not the primary need for field service booking — the primary need is getting a deposit and confirming the slot. If detailed intake forms are critical for your trade, Acuity or a combination of tools might be a better fit.
What happens to my deposit in Acuity vs GrabMySlot?
In Acuity, deposits are processed through Stripe, Square, or PayPal and go to your connected account. GrabMySlot uses Stripe Connect, and deposits go directly to your Stripe Express account — we never hold your money. Both are similar in this respect, though GrabMySlot's integration with Stripe Connect is specifically designed for the platform-to-contractor payment flow.
